Touring
The recommended daily touring rate is currently £158.00 for guiding in English and £180.00 for guiding in a language other than English (for guiding in more than one language see note above). When negotiating touring rates it is important to remember that Guides are to be provided with all meals, and that should meals not be included in the basic arrangements, Guides are provided with suitable expenses in lieu in addition to the daily rate.Cancellation Fees
7 days notice or less - 50% of booked fee (excluding language supplement)
48 hours notice or immediately prior to tour - full booked fee as negotiated (excluding language supplements, lunch allowance etc.)
NB The above are payable either by the tour operator when an alternative engagement is not found for the Guide whose services have been cancelled or payable by the Guide when a replacement acceptable to the tour operator is not found.General Provisions:
Vouchers or cash to cover all disbursements during the tour should be provided prior to the commencement of the tour by the tour operator.Travelling expenses, (i.e. parking fees etc.) incurred by Guides required to collect groups from airports and locations outside London should be provided. In the interests of personal safety, when tours begin or end at very early or late times and travel by public transport is not suitable or possible Guides should be reimbursed for the cost of taxi fares.
A coach which has a safe seat with a safety belt for the Guide and a working microphone and PA system should be provided.
If there is not a working microphone or PA system provided, the operator should be informed as soon as possible by the guide and advised that an increment of 100% may be charged by the Guide until the omission is rectified.Properly presented invoices should be submitted by the Guide to the tour operator at the conclusion of each engagement. Invoices should separate fees from claims for disbursements, which must be properly itemised and have attached receipts when appropriate.
NB: The above recommended fees scale applies only to those guides who conform to the description of "worker" as viewed by the Office of Fair Trading in respect of the Restrictive Practices Act 1976. Guides falling into the "non-worker" category must negotiate fees individually. With reference to the Guild's members:
A "worker" is any Guide who works under a contract personally to execute any work or labour, i.e. who is a sole trader and the subject matter of whose contract, subject only to very minor exceptions, will be executed by that Guide personally.
A "non-worker" is any Guide who accepts work in order to refer it to another Guide (and who will not carry out the work himself). The Guide may be acting as an individual, an officer of a company, a partner in a partnership, or be acting through another business vehicle and as such will not be a "worker".
